Duties and Responsibilities:

The project will document women in the Harvard medical community.
Specifically, the archivist will establish the framework of an
acquisitions, outreach, and processing program designed to increase the
accessible holdings of women's papers. The archivist will plan for
ongoing action, including a set of tools and methods to enable the
program's continuance beyond the archivist's tenure. Project objectives
include: a documentation planning study; identifying potential partners
in documentation and documentation priorities; development of a
long-term plan to document women in Harvard medicine; executing outreach
activities including exhibits and talks; acquiring records; selecting
and processing high-impact collections. This work will require
communication and collaboration with colleagues at Countway and at other
repositories, Harvard medical community faculty and staff, and history
of medicine scholars. The archivist must set and revise priorities,
balancing multiple audiences, tasks, and deadlines. 

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

Required: MLS or MA in archival methods or equivalent degree or
graduate-level course work in library science or archives combined with
related work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of archival theory,
methods, and description; knowledge of automated catalogs, tools, and
software. Proficiency in MARC and EAD. Experience working with donors,
appraising, and processing records. Project management skills and
experience, including planning, coordinating, and working with
colleagues and faculty. Ability to work independently in an organized
manner. Superior writing and communications skills. Preferred:
Experience in documentation planning, collaborative projects,
fundraising, oral history programs, and designing and installing
exhibits. Experience with Harvard catalogs, tools and practices.
Knowledge of history of medicine/science or women's history. Please note
that this position is funded for period of three years.
