Subject: Position Announcement-MHC Librarian
The Ohio State University Prior Health Sciences Library seeks a Medical Heritage Center Librarian to
develop, plan and lead the activities of the Medical Heritage Center (MHC). Reporting to the Library
Director, this librarian will manage, acquire and develop special collections and exhibits of rare
books, manuscripts, archives, and artifacts. He/She will provide leadership and expertise for the
MHC in the areas of medical history, collection development, budget management, staff development,
strategic planning and fund raising; participate in development and outreach activities for the
Library; provide medical history reference assistance and education for the MHC and the Library;
promote and support historical scholarship and the appreciation of medical heritage through lectures,
grant writing, research, and publication. The successful applicant will have faculty status with
accompanying University expectations and requirements for tenure and promotion, including teaching,
service and publication. Rank is based on experience and qualifications. The University offers
competitive salary and benefits.
This position requires a Masters Degree in library/information science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited
library program and five years of progressively responsible professional (post-Master’s) library
experience. Desired qualifications include training or experience in preservation and/or archiving
materials; Internet, database, acquisitions, and collection development experience; knowledge of
developments related to the history of medicine; grant writing abilities and experience in
fund raising; strong communication skills and the ability to work with University faculty and
students as well as members of the community.
The salary range is $46,000-52,000/ anually
