Where Are They Now?:
Hospitals and Sanatoriums in Monroe County
Hospitals in Wayne County
Where Are They Now is a photo essay of past hospitals and sanatoria in Rochester, Monroe County and
Wayne County, New York. This is not meant to be a definitive history of healthcare but more of a
reminder of institutions gone and forgotten. In the past 160 years, hospitals have changed from small
cottage hospitals, to specialized institutions, to general hospitals, to today’s multi-hospital
corporations. Names have changed and institutions have moved to locations little related to
their former homes.
