Greetings all,
This is another friendly reminder from your Roundtable Co-Chairs, Joe
Anderson and me, that SAA 2004 meeting session proposals must be submitted
by Tuesday, 10/7/03, a little over TWO WEEKS from today. The submission form
is available online at http://www..archivists.org/conference/proposal_call.rtf.
(Remember: we have been "strongly" encouraged to submit proposals electronically
this year!)
Those of you working on proposals need to:
1. Finish writing the proposal.
2. Contact all speakers and get a firm commitment from them.
3. Decide whether you want to propose the session as an individual, or
have the Science Technology and Health Care Roundtable to serve as the
session proposer. This is a NEW option this year (see item 3 on the proposal
form). If you want the STHC to serve as the proposer, please email
Joe Anderson (janderson@aip.org) and me (jmdeken@slac.stanford.edu )
to request the Roundtable's approval for this option.
4. Submit the proposal to SAA by the deadline, 10/7/2003. Send all
proposals to: Mark A. Greene, SAA Program Committee Co-Chair Director,
American Heritage Center University of Wyoming, P.O.Box 3924, Laramie,
WY 82071-3924. Ph. 307/766-2474, fax 307/766-5511 email: mgreene@uwyo.edu .
When sending your proposal electronically, SAA has asked that you CC
all listed participants.
5. Send a copy to Joe and to me, and we will then work with the Steering
Committee to prepare the STHC Roundtable endorsement of it.
If you want input or assistance in preparing your proposal, please
feel free to email any/all of us on the Steering Committee (list available
at: http://www.archivists.org/saagroups/sthc/members.html ). We will
be happy to be of help. Also, if you have any ideas about Sections or
Roundtables that could appropriately co-sponsor your proposal, please let us know.
Kalpana Shankar and Russell Johnson get the prize for being having the first
2004 program proposal submission! Other proposals by members of the
Roundtable that in the works are:
1. Panel discussion on how one gets into the Science/Technology archives
field (K. Shankar/R. Johnson) SUBMITTED!
2. Equipment and instruments in science and technology archives (J. Zwicky)
3. Standard series descriptions for non-humanities archives (J. Rees)
4. Legal research in archives (N. McCall)
5. MIT Session (special open house or something on history of science
policy) (L. Andrews)
6. 51st Anniversary of the Double Helix (J. Goldblum)
7. Access to records of state eugenics programs. (T. Pyatt, Privacy
and Confidentiality Roundtable)
Good luck everyone--
Best wishes,
Jean and Joe
