Gentle Colleagues:
Ever since my advent as archivist for the College of American Pathologists
almost nine years ago, I've been fighting an uphill battle against the
confusion engendered by the entrenched habit among our members and staff of
using the single word "Archives" to refer to our journal, the Archives of
Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. There have been a number of incidents over
the years (most recently today, in case you couldn't guess) in which our
ability to serve members and customers has been directly and adversely
affected by this ongoing confusion.
It just occurred to me that perhaps some of the rest of you work for
organizations that also publish journals called "Archives of
Something-or-other" and you may be able to suggest some helpful tricks that
I haven't thought of.
Happy weekend!
Jim Carson
