THE BOEING COMPANY -- CHAIRMAN'S ARCHIVES INTERN POSITION
DESCRIPTION: The Boeing Company has Business Summer Intern
opportunities available at the World Headquarters facility located in
Chicago, IL. This opportunity is located in the Communications
organization. The internship program begins at the conclusion of Spring
Term and engages students in specific work assignments throughout the
2003 summer for students returning to school in the Fall.
Communications intern Produce and maintain an organized archive that
reflects the career of the chairman and chief executive officer of The
Boeing Company. Materials on the chairman -- such as news clippings,
photographs, videos, speeches, correspondence, and artifacts -- have
been collected over the past five years. They need to be organized,
classified and indexed to allow easy access for historians,
biographers, company officials and family historians. A process must be
developed to consistently collect, organize and preserve appropriate
future materials.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Background in library sciences or archival
studies is preferred. Ideal candidate should have excellent people,
organizational, and planning skills, and the ability to work toward
long-term goals and vision while consistently meeting short- and
long-term deadlines. Prospective intern also should be able to think
critically and creatively, and work independently and cooperatively.
EDUCATION: Undergraduate students must have 'sophomore' to 'junior'
year status with graduation dates after the Fall of 2003.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Work with Executive Communications to develop a
system for archiving variety of materials, review collected materials
to determine if they meet qualifications for archives, organize and
register materials, create an electronic, searchable index of
materials, work with Boeing communications, photo and video services to
obtain materials, develop a process to maintain archives so future
materials are consistently collected, organized and preserved.
