NEW BOOK: History of Hebrew Medicine

I'm forwarding this from another list I'm on. The original email had some
problems (I'm assuming because French accent marks were included in the
original), so I've tried to correct the problems. Any errors in the French
are probably my fault.

Short description: From 1948 to 1985, Isidore Simon, a practicing physician,
almost single-handedly edited and published in Paris the Revue d'histoire de
la medecine hebraique. This volume reprints some thirty studies (all in
French) published in the RHMH on various aspects of the history of medicine
among Jews. Some bear on famous physicians, as e.g. Maimonides, Joseph Ibn
Zabarra, Moses Hamon, Elia di Sabbato, David de Pomis, Jacob Zahalon, Elie
Montalto, Jean Astruc, Michel Levy, Gumpertz Levison, Ferdinand Cohn, or
Moritz Benedikt. Other studies are thematic: medicine in the Bible and the
Talmud, Jewish contributions to French surgery, Jewish medical students at
German universities, Jewish hospitals in Moldavia, and even an article on
the dog in Jewish medicine and superstition. The volume also provides
biographical information on the authors. An appendix carries the Table of
Contents of all the issues of the RHMH.

Copies can be ordered directly from the publisher: E-mail: cs@brill.nl or:
