Congratulations to Kalpana Shankar, who successfully defended her 
doctoral dissertation last week in the UCLA Department of Information 
Studies!  Before too long, look on Dissertations Abstracts for her  
abstract and info about: "Scientists, Records, and the Practical 
Politics of Infrastructure."  

Folks here at UCLA are very pleased that our colleague will remain on 
campus for a while--next month she begins a postdoc stint at the 
Center for Embedded Network Sensing.
