NUCMC PROGRAM
Did you know that:
The NUCMC Program (National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections) is
alive and well at the Library of Congress.
The program is free of charge.
NUCMC catalogs manuscripts, manuscript collections, and archives housed
in repositories open to the public such as libraries, historical
societies, municipal, county, and state archives, businesses, museums,
churches, and other holders or keepers of documentary evidence.
NUCMC catalogs materials covering all languages and subjects including
business, labor, military, historical medical, religious, ethnic,
topical, gay and lesbian, cultural, and geographical material.
NUCMC works with archival projects such as the Montana Union List
Project sending cataloging information for repositories throughout
Montana and the CHASP Project providing data from Historical Black
Universities and Colleges throughout the United States.
NUCMC catalogs large and small collections including single item
manuscripts or 30,000 cubic ft. collections of records.
NUCMC can include links in the cataloging records to finding aids a
repository has posted on the World Wide Web.
NUCMC inputs catalog records for your repository into the RLG (Research
Libraries Group) AMC (Archival and Mixed Collection) file.
NUCMC provides free of change searching access for the RLG AMC file and
the OCLC Mixed Materials file.
Participation in the NUCMC Program can increase use of materials in
your repository by making your catalog records available to researchers
around the globe.
You are eligible if:
Your repository is not a member of RLG or OCLC.
