Hi Sue,
I know nothing of operating tables, though pathology
labs contained quite a bit of wooden furniture well into
the 20th century. Cabinets of course were wooden, but
so were the benches on which pathologists and medical
technologists did their work. The ASCP archives has some
historic photos of labs, which show wooden furniture even
at Bethesda in the mid-50's (the ASCP had a workshop there
in 1954). I wonder if Susan Rishworth has any historic
photos of operating rooms at ACS.
