Assistant Institute Archivist
Rensselaer Research Libraries

This position will perform a broad range of archival and special
collections activities.  These include formulating and implementing
arrangement, description and preservation plans for archival manuscript
collections in all formats; preparing and editing finding aids for
collections; designing and maintaining the department's Web site and
electronic collections; and participating in the development of collecting
policies and procedures.  This individual will also provide reference
assistance and course-specific bibliographic instruction; prepare
traditional and electronic exhibits of rare books, manuscript and archival
material; participate in various library and University committees and 
task forces; and supervise student employees.  This is an entry-level 
position to be filled at Librarian I rank.

Qualified candidate must have an MLS (with archives and special collections
coursework) from an ALA accredited institution and experience in the
arrangement and description of archival and special collections
material.  Knowledge of information technology as applied to archives and
special collections is necessary, as is the ability to supervise student
assistants.  Excellent oral/written communication skills are essential.  A
master's degree or coursework in history is preferred.  Creative and
