ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN, Niels Bohr Library, Center for History of Physics,
American Institute of Physics, College Park, MD.
The AIP Center for History of Physics is the oldest discipline history
center in the sciences; the Center's Niels Bohr Library is a historical
research collection which contains print and non-print resources in
the history of modern physics and allied fields.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The position requires a library generalist who is
flexible, can manage multiple priorities, and is able to work
effectively with other members of the Center team. The Assistant
Librarian is responsible for managing the Library's print and audio
resources and coordinating reference services. Duties include staffing
the reference desk on a rotating basis; ordering, accessioning, and
cataloging books and serials; designing and implementing preservation
programs for print and audio holdings; helping to administer the
integrated library system and other computer systems; and maintaining
the Library's disaster prevention and recovery plan.
QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in Library Science from an
ALA-accredited program and a minimum of two years professional library
experience, including experience in AACR2 cataloging, reference, and
preservation work. Good computer skills, experience in using library
databases, and practical knowledge of preservation required; previous
experience with microfilming projects preferred.. Must be able to lift
40 lb. boxes. Subject knowledge in the history of science not required.

SALARY: $35,025 minimum. AIP offers excellent health care and other
