The Einstein Papers Project at the California Institute of Technology
is seeking to appoint a full-time junior editor, to be engaged in
historical research and annotation of Albert Einstein’s non-scientific
writings and correspondence for the period 1919-1933. The appointment,
subject to periodic evaluations, is for an initial period of three
years, starting as early as spring and no later than fall 2002. The
position carries with it a faculty appointment as senior research
fellow in history (without tenure).
The ideal candidate should have completed a Ph.D. in modern
intellectual, political, and/or social German history, and have
training in the evaluation of a large body of primary material,
experience in archival research, and familiarity with the basics of
writing annotation. A total command of written German, including
sensitivity to textual nuances, is required. Editorial experience is
desired but not required. The candidate should be able to work
productively and according to schedule in a collaborative editorial
environment; willing to acquire new skills, including the use of
project-specific word-processing, typesetting, and database software;
able to handle multiple research and writing tasks simultaneously and
with great attention to detail and accuracy. Please send a curriculum
vitae; two writing samples; and three letters of reference to:
