Digital Technology Specialist
The Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library is seeking
a highly motivated individual committed to exploring creative new ways
to provide access to historical documents, photographs and fragile,
antiquarian books. This person will work primarily on providing
innovative approaches using photography and information technology in
the development of digital resources for the scholarly community.
Responsibilities include: Work collaboratively with the staff in the
John P. McGovern Historical Collections and Research Center on
development of databases and search capabilities for the McGovern
Center's web site; scan postcards, photographs, and other historical
materials for access through the web page; provide conversion and
formatting for images from the digital camera; provide metadata for
documents and images on the web site.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree preferred; Working technical
knowledge of world wide web technologies and tools; Creative approach
to the development of new services; Commitment to responsive and
innovative service; Experience with computer integrated resources;
Knowledge of or ability to learn current and emerging digital
technologies
Flexibility and ability to work independently in a rapidly
changing environment and in cooperation with a variety of clients and
staff with differing levels of technical expertise; ability to interact
positively and productively with library colleagues; excellent
trouble-shooting skills; desire to work in a technologically
challenging environment.
The successful candidate will work in the John P. McGovern
Historical Collections & Research Center, a dynamic department of
individuals with dissimilar backgrounds. Current McGovern Center
projects include the enhancement of its web page, scanning images of
Texas hospitals, development of a digital library on Texas medical
history, acquisition of new book and archival collections, and
reference services to a varied clientele. The HAM-TMC Library is one of
the largest health science libraries in the United States. (

Located in the Texas Medical Center, it serves two medical schools,
three nursing schools, and six major hospitals.
Starting salary is $32,000 and is commensurate with education
and experience. Fringe benefits include medical, dental and life
insurance. TIAA/CREF retirement plan is available. Interviewing for
