Alfred R. Neumann Library
The University of Houston-Clear Lake seeks an Associate Librarian/Archivist
to manage the UHCL Archives, including the historical collection of NASA's
Johnson Space Center.
Minimum Requirements ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library
/Information Science with concentration in archives or Master's degree in
archival studies in closely related field; 4 years professional archival
experience. Comprehensive knowledge of archival principles and practices;
understanding of integrated library automation systems; familiarity with
MARC format; ability to prepare and maintain finding aids based on current
and emerging technologies such as EAD; ability to evaluate records and
objects as to historical value; excellent supervisory, organizational, and
problem-solving skills; strong oral/written communication skills in English;
demonstrated history of progressively responsible professional archival
experience.
Special Considerations: Special consideration given to applicants with
Master's degree in Library/Information Science with advanced course work in
archival theory and methodology; second relevant master's or other advanced
degree; 2 years management experience in archives; ACA certification.
Duties and Responsibilities: Direct and manage the UHCL archives,
including the Johnson Space Center archives; develop operating plans and
procedures; provide departmental leadership with relationship to developing
technologies; prepare budget recommendations, reports, analyses on a
periodic basis; identify outside funding sources; prepare grant proposals;
represent library and university as appropriate. Position reports to the
Executive Director.
Salary: Appointment range for this full-time, benefits eligible position is
$2961 - $3553 per month. Comprehensive benefits package, including health,
dental, LTD insurance, and participation in 403(b) retirement plan;
voluntary tax-deferred annuity program available; no state or local income
tax. Position available June 1, 2001.
General Information: Located in a heavily wooded, 524-acre natural
environment 25 miles from downtown Houston and adjacent to NASA's Johnson
Space Center, UHCL is an upper-level (junior-senior-graduate) institution
with more than 7,500 students and over 500 faculty, offering bachelor's
degrees in more than 30 majors and over 40 master's degree programs.
