Each summer the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in
Houston, Texas, employs a small group of undergraduate and graduate
students in history (or related fields) to provide research support for
its ongoing Oral History Project. They are now accepting applications
for this year's program. A full description and application
information is included below. I would suggest each applicant also
include a letter of recommendation with their materials. Though NASA
does not provide housing, many low-cost, temporary housing
opportunities are available in the area; a list is available through
the JSC Co-op office.

I particularly encourage students interested in the history of
technology to apply. Some portion of the research will deal with
technical issues, so an interest in that area or the space program in
general can be beneficial. If you have questions concerning the
application process, please use the contact information provided in the
announcement. If you have general questions about the Oral
History Project, you may also contact me via telephone or e-mail (listed
below). Please note the deadline for applications is March 7, 2001.

the Johnson Space Center (JSC) Oral History Project's primary goal is
to research and interview individuals who enabled the exciting and
challenging space programs of yesterday and today. This program
provides temporary summer work only and is limited to undergraduate and
graduate students.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
* Opportunities are very limited
* Positions are full-time
* Pay ranges from $8.95 to $15.20 per hour, depending on experience and

have the unique opportunity to participate in documenting the history
of the U.S. human space exploration. You will be responsible for
researching biographical information on key contributors to NASA's
Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and Space Shuttle programs. This
research involves accessing published and unpublished (primary and
secondary) materials including written histories, interviews, technical
documents, and Internet sources. Using this research, you will then
compile professionally structured biographical profiles. These profiles
include relevant technical and historical information regarding the
subject's career with NASA and are used to help prepare our staff of
professional interviewers in conducting each interview. You will gain
significant experience in research, writing and being part of the
