Re: What's New??? -Reply -Reply

Dear Liz-

One project for which we are presently providing preservation 35mm
microfilming and duplication is coordinated by Cornell University
Library's Preservation Department. It is a medical archives project
that includes three medical schools (Cornell, Columbia and N.Y.U.) and
hospitals in the New York City area. For example, there are surgical
and medical casebooks of the New York Hospital, from 1877 to 1900, and
many more early 20th century records. There are also anti-vivsection
materials from the turn of the century, in scrapbooks, and medicine
during the First World War, etc.

There is presently an interest in preserving and making available much
of this early medical information (casebooks particularly) for those
researchers looking at disease, illness and early medical
practices--some information that may also have value in treating
certain cases today. Several other hospitals are now pursuing such
projects as well.

Anyway, I would of course need to get permission to write an article
about this Cornell project--or perhaps someone there (at CU) might wish
to do it.

Let me know your interest...

Best regards,
Douglas Scott Treado, M.A.
