Forwarded to STHC-L (The Science, Technology and Health Care Archives
Forum) from H-SCI-MED-TECH.
The forwarded posting is in response to a query about the archives of
the Female Medical College (which became Woman's Medical College, and
later Medical College of Pennsylvania), with news which I think will be
of interest to several members of the STHC-L list.
For a description of the Archives at MCP Hahnemann University (MCPHU,
operated by Drexel University) and a listing of highlights of the
Medical College of Pennsylvania Collection, see

I am pleased to say that despite tumultuous times recently in the parent
institution, the Archives and Special Collections on Women in Medicine,
which includes the archives of the Female Medical College of Pennsylvania
(later Woman's Medical College and later still Medical College
of Pennsylvania, is alive and reasonably well, even adding staff.
Inquiries to this wonderful collection should go to the Director, Joanne
Grossman, at joanne.grossman@drexel.edu or 3200 Henry Avenue,
Philadelphia, PA 19129, or 215 842 4700.
The year 2000 is the 150th anniversary of the founding of the historic
school, the first anywhere established to offer a full medical course (as
then understood) and the M.D. to women. I have completed a new history of
WMC/MCP which will appear soon from Rutgers University Press; it is based
largely on archival materials.
