Manager Collection's Division/Archivist

(Principal Museum Scientist: $42,700 - 64,000)


Review, establish and implement policy and procedures regarding the
research and commercial use, organization, description, survey,
accessioning, cataloguing, care and preservation of the Museum's paper,
still and moving images, and sound archives (200,000+ items). With the
Museum's Registrar, oversee the arrangement of the Museum's paper
archives including field notes, accession records and correspondence.
Facilitate visitor and patron requests to access these collections and
receive duplicates. Implement development of finding aids and databases.
Approximately 20% of the position will be devoted to coordinating and
supervising the activities of the Collections Division including two
Collections Managers, Registrar, Conservator, and Photographer. Supervise
temporary staff as necessary.


Required qualifications: MA in anthropology, art history, history,
library/information science, museum studies, or related field; six years
of museum or archives experience, including two in a supervisory
capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the
duties assigned.  Budget management experience.  Excellent written and
verbal communication skills. Sensitivity to legal and ethical issues
relevant to these collections.
