
The Stress in Stimulant Abuse and Addiction
Affinity Group consists of researchers from the Integrated
Substance Abuse Program (ISAP), the Norman Cousins Psychoneuroimmunology
Program,
and the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience. The
main focus of the group is to improve understanding of
how stress impacts addiction. The activities of the participating
programs include weekly conferences and yearly national
meetings. Associated educational programs include two training
grants, Drug Abuse Training
Program and Clinical Research Education,
and a weekly teaching clinic. Research interests include
studies examining the impact of psychosocial stress on
the reinforcing effects of stimulants, effects of drugs
of abuse on sleep, and effects of stress hormones and
their antagonists on behavior.
